In the event of an emergency, please contact our Security Department at (268) 562-2222 or (268) 463-8830 or channel VHF Radio Channel # 21. While we hope that there will be no storms this year, we all must still take the necessary precautions to secure life and property. In this regard, we would like to share with you the following safety tips: 1. Monitor any potential storms throughout the season on the internet or via weather updates on local radio or television – ABS Television Channel 10/11 and ABS Radio 90.5FM. The Antigua and Barbuda Government’s Meteorological Office 24 hours Hotline is on (268) 463-4638. 2. Ensure that insurance policies on your property are up-to date. Keep your documents in a safe, waterproof place. 3. Remove or safely secure all items on and around your premises, as hurricane winds of 150 – 175 MPH could turn debris into dangerous missiles. 4. If your marine vessel requires dry docking facilities during the Hurricane season, kindly contact the Marina Manager early as space is limited. 5. Safely secure marine vessels at your property well in advance of any approaching storm. Should you need assistance; the Marina staff can provide advice on how best to secure your boat. 6. Installing Hurricane shutters over your windows and glass doors is recommended, although optional. 7. In the event of an approaching storm, you will need to move as quickly as possible to protect your property. 9. During a hurricane, there is a period of extreme calm while the ‘eye’ passes. This is only temporary, and winds will build again to full force. Complete any repairs quickly and return indoors before the second – sometimes more forceful part of the storm begins. 10. During a storm, you are encouraged where possible to leave a window on either side of your house open slightly. This prevents pressure build up inside the house which could result in explosion. 11. It is wise to stock up on emergency supplies at the start of the hurricane season, as many of these items sell out quickly once a storm warning is announced: Hurricane Lamp/Flashlights, Radio (battery operated), Batteries, First Aid Kit, Bottled Water, Non Perishable food, Ice, Blankets/Towels, Cooler, Tarpaulin, Large Garbage bags. 13. In the event of a hurricane, plan for contingencies during the storm as well as for several weeks afterwards. Following a serious storm, water and power services may be interrupted and general provisions may become scarce. 14. Keep emergency numbers close by and your cell phone fully charged in case you need to call someone for assistance. 15. Remove breakable objects from walls; unplug, cover (with garbage bags) and secure all electrical appliances; elevate furniture where possible (to prevent water damage from flooding). 16. Keep your vehicle well fueled at all times – gas can become scarce after a severe storm. 17. Keep a change of clothing, shoes, towels and a blanket in a plastic bag to ensure dryness. 18. Be sure you have an adequate supply of any medications you need to take on a regular basis.
